Fabrizio Romano drops hammer Friday morning update on Marc Guehi that will devastate Liverpool fans

Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal have all shown interest in Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.

Marc Guehi is moving closer to a move to Manchester City, reports suggest.

Liverpool saw a move for the Crystal Palace centre-back collapse in the summer transfer window. The Reds agreed a £35 million fee on deadline day - only for Palace to pull the plug at the 11th hour.

Guehi’s Selhurst Park contract expires at the end of the season and Eagles head coach Oliver Glasner revealed the club are open to a sale in the January transfer window if their price tag is met. Liverpool have remained interested, while Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have been linked.

And despite Guehi being available on a free transfer in the summer, City are looking to swoop for the England international. Pep Guardiola’s side have lost Joško Gvardiol, Ruben Dias and John Stones to injury and they are keen to bolster their ranks.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that City have made a ‘big approach’. Romano posted on X: “Manchester City advance on Marc Guehi deal as big approach has been made in the last 12h. Manchester City presented important proposal to Guehi in terms of contract, eventually ready to proceed also with Crystal Palace.Deal now closer with #MCFC.”

Palace are said to be holding out for a fee of more than the £35 million price tag that they agreed with Liverpool.

The Reds are short of defenders for the second half of the season as Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni will not play again because of respective knee injuries. Sections of Liverpool fans would like to see a new player signed this month.

However, head coach Arne Slot has suggested that it is unlikely. Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Burnley, Slot said: “I think everyone is aligned about the challenges we are facing. That’s not to say that we are going to act, but we are aligned on what we are facing. There is no-one who has a different opinion on it. That’s not to say that anything is going to happen.”
