Roy Keane took a swipe at new Manchester United interim head coach Michael Carrick's wife whilst discussing the 44-year-old's return to Old Trafford.
Carrick was announced as United's manager until the end of the season on Wednesday after Ruben Amorim's dismissal earlier this month. He previously oversaw three matches in 2021 and has returned to the club this week after constructive talks with the club's senior management.
His appointment dominated conversation on the Stick to Football podcast, with Keane appearing to revive an old dispute with Carrick's wife, Lisa, whilst assessing the prospects for success this season.
When discussing Carrick's potential influence on the United squad, Keane remarked: "His wife can always come in [if Carrick doesn't do well], cause she's got a bit of a big mouth sometimes. She's probably doing the team talk."
Back in 2014, Lisa hit back at Keane's critique of Carrick's display and post-match comments after the 2-0 loss to Greek outfit Olympiacos in the Champions League. Carrick's wife posted on Twitter, now X: "Roy Keane what a ****, says anything to provoke a reaction."
She subsequently removed the tweet and issued an apology for her remarks. "Deleted my tweet... Emotions got the better of me," she wrote, reports the Mirror.

Keane also had harsh words for Carrick's coaching staff. Steve Holland, former assistant manager for England, will serve as Carrick's deputy, with Jonny Evans, Jonathan Woodgate and Travis Binnion rounding out the management team.
"He's on the beach two weeks ago, Jonny Evans," Keane remarked. "Jonny Evans leaves Man United four or five weeks ago as a loans manager and then Darren Fletcher gives him a job, strangely enough gives him a job.
"He has two games, Fletch goes and Carrick gives him a job, great isn't it. We should all go to Barbados for a week. You're on about getting your coaching staff in, you're praising one of them saying he's experienced and then we just let the other two go, Jonathan Woodgate and Jonny Evans.
"What has Jonny Evans done to be a coach of Man United's first team? He left the job four weeks ago - loans manager, and ironically comes back working with the first team. That's a big step up, isn't it?".
He continued: "My point is, if Steve Holland is on the training pitch at least you know they're going to get top class training sessions. I'm not saying they weren't before because they probably were as well. I don't know what Evans or Woodgate are like as coaches, don't know what Carrick is like as a coach."
