Levi Colwill suggests Chelsea have a player who’s better than Frank Lampard and Cesc Fabregas

The current Chelsea squad is packed with talent that suggests they should be far higher up in the table than they currently are.

The Blues currently sit eighth in the Premier League, however are awaiting Liam Rosenior’s Premier League debut in charge of the club.

They host Brentford at Stamford Bridge this weekend, with them being given the chance to overtake their West London rivals in the table.

Rosenior will be hoping for a boost in prospects with the potential return of Reece James and Cole Palmer after they missed the last two games through injury.

Levi Colwill ranks Reece James ahead of Frank Lampard and Cesc Fabregas

The absence of the club captain has been particularly damning, especially after they recently celebrated a year since his last significant injury.

It is clear just how highly his teammates rate him as well. When blind ranking past and present Chelsea players for Topps’ TikTok, Levi Colwill put James in his number one spot.

This came ahead of club legends Frank Lampard and Cesc Fabregas, as well as Juan Mata. Eden Hazard ranked fifth, however this was because he was the last name to be given to Colwill.

The two England defenders have not shared the pitch together this season due to the serious knee injury he suffered in pre-season.

Chelsea have struggled at the back in his absence, however are now weighing up the prospect of bolstering their backline in January.

Chelsea considering January defensive signing

Enzo Maresca was desperate for the club to bring in a new central defender over the summer when news of the injury first emerged, however he was not granted his wishes.

There will perhaps be even more anger on the Italian’s side amid reports that Chelsea are accelerating their interest in a centre-back to the current transfer window.

It seems the Blues had been hesitant to invest given the fact that Colwill is a key member of the first team squad, although their weaknesses without him are clear to see.

The performance at the back in their recent game against Arsenal was poor, and needs addressing as soon as possible.
