Celtic warned against signing David Datro Fofana, as 'comfort zone' at Chelsea explained

Celtic are going around in circles in their attempts to sign a striker.

All the problems stem from last summer, and the complete and utter mess made of that window, including links to Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana.

To nobody’s surprise, Fofana is on Celtic’s radar again, as the Hoops get desperate in their attempts to sign a goalscorer before the January transfer window slams shut.

But Celtic have been warned against bringing Fofana to Glasgow.

Is David Datro Fofana the answer to Celtic’s striker problem? Let us know in the comments below.

Celtic warned against signing David Datro Fofana from Chelsea

Fofana is currently playing in Turkey for Fatih Karagümrük S.K, so if Celtic want to bring him to Glasgow, his loan deal would need to be cut short.

But Peter Grant isn’t sure about bringing the 24-year-old to the champions of Scotland.

With a permanent transfer being discussed for Fofana, Grant told Go Radio that these types of players at Chelsea get into their ‘comfort zone’, and don’t want too much fuss when moving.

Fofana moved to Stamford Bridge in 2023, and he already has had four loan spells. Either way, it’s a signing that Grant wouldn’t make.

“Fofana, I am not so sure about because some of these guys, like being at Chelsea,” said Grant. “I was down there all that time. I noticed a lot of these boys didn’t want to go any further than London.

“Yeah (even though they aren’t playing). Chelsea used to have a squad of 68 people. But they had an international group of 14 players, who trained on their own, with another coach. 14 internationals.

“So, some of them get into that comfort zone off that, and you don’t want that coming into Celtic. I think that’s important.”

The positive with Fofana is that he is in form, and he has had minutes under his belt, so fitness-wise, there shouldn’t be an issue.

At the age of 23, there is a lot to work with, and the next manager coming in after Martin O’Neill could still help progress his career.
