Manchester City have taken a big step forward in their transfer pursuit of Marc Guehi. Pep Guardiola's side have been strongly linked to the Crystal Palace captain this month following injuries to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias with City now looking to have made a decision.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, City have advanced in the Guehi deal during the last 12 hours with an important proposal presented to the England international. He has added that Palace are prepared to proceed as well which means the deal getting closer.
Guehi has entered the final six months of his contract at Selhurst Park with Arsenal and Liverpool eager to sign him as a free agent.
However, that option may not be possible as the Eagles are open to a potential sale in January, with that made clear by Oliver Glasner in his recent updates on the centre-back.
He said: "I'm not naive. If a massive offer comes from City and Marc wants to do it, it will happen. If you're just valuing sports, everyone in the club will say Marc has to stay.
"The chairman will tell you the same. But it's not one-dimensional. If you see the financial situation, it's very important.
"If somebody comes, there will be a moment when the club says 'now the financial issue is more important than the sports issue'.
"There will be a threshold where the club has to say it will happen - as long as Marc says 'I want to leave', because the final decision is always with the player.
"Everybody wants that he plays for Crystal Palace, signs a new contract and stays here forever. We have to do it and try to get the best. That's why I'm always saying: 'I don't know.' Because this is different."

City have already beaten several other Premier League clubs to the signing of Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth this month with that deal costing up to £64million.
Given his contract predicament, Guehi would cost significantly less with Palace still hoping to receive up to £35million for his services.
That was the value of the agreement Liverpool struck with Palace on deadline day but the move did no go through with not enough time left to sign an adequate replacement.
If Guehi makes the move to City in the next few days, Glasner and Co. would have roughly two weeks to bring in a new defender.
They have already signed Brennan Johnson from Tottenham for £35million which allowed Spurs to make sign former Palace loannee Conor Gallagher on a permanent deal from Atletico Madrid.
