Marc Guehi expected to leave Crystal Palace in days after transfer breakthrough

In a bombshell press conference, the Eagles boss also confirmed club captain Marc Guehi is in the final stages of a move to Manchester City.

The Austrian, who has been tipped to become the next permanent Manchester United manager, says he informed Palace that he is 'looking for a new challenge'.

The Eagles had been hoping to tie the FA Cup winning boss down to a new deal.

In a stunning double blow, Palace are on the verge of losing Guehi to City after reaching an agreement in principle.

The 25-year-old will not be part of Palace's squad to face Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday while a deal is finalised.

As reported earlier this week, City have been trying to negotiate Palace down from their £35million asking price.

Liverpool came close to signing Guehi in the summer but did not move to rival City's bid in this window.

The England defender is out of contract in June when the Eagles would lose him without a fee.

City stepped up their interest in recent weeks amid injuries to centre-back pair Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol.

Pep Guardiola's side are currently six points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal after three consecutive games without a win.
