Deal close: Marc Guehi
The Crystal Palace boss said that the centre-back would not be involved in the Eagles’ matchday squad at Sunderland on Saturday with the transfer moving towards completion.
The Austrian told reporters that Guehi’s move was in the “final stages”.
Guehi is out of contract at Selhurst Park this summer.
It had been reported earlier on Friday that City had launched a bid for the England international, who saw a Deadline Day move to Liverpool collapse at the 11th hour last summer.
The 25-year-old is now nearing a switch to the Etihad Stadium, with BBC Sport revealing that City had agreed a deal in principle for the defender, with Guehi exepected to agree person terms with Pep Guardiola’s side.
Interest in the defender had been rife, with Arsenal among those with Guehi on their radar, while Liverpool continued to monitor the Eagles captain.
Reports claimed that there was also interest from overseas, with Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid all thought to be admirers.
Guehi’s last game as a Palace player is likely to be their recent FA Cup upset at the hands of Macclesfield, with the non-league side recording one of the biggest shocks in history to dump the holders out.
In a revealing press conference ahead of the south Londoners’ trip to Wearside to take on Sunderland, Palace manager Glasner also confirmed that he himself would be leaving Selhurst Park when his contract expires at the end of the season.
