‘Here We Go’–Fabrizio Romano Confirms Man City’s Next January Signing

Man City are set to seal the signing of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi for £20m, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Cityzens has seemingly beaten the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal to the 25-year-old’s signature. Writing on his X account, Romano confirmed the deal is in place:

The centre-half’s arrival will follow shortly after the addition of Antoine Semenyo, who joined from Bournemouth for £65m last week.

Glasner has confirmed Guehi won’t play this weekend

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon ahead of Palace’s match against Sunderland, Eagles head coach Oliver Glasner revealed that the England international would not be in the matchday squad as he closes in on a move to the Etihad.

The Austrian said that Guehi‘s departure is in the “final stages”, with it looking very likely that he will complete his transfer over the coming days.

Why have Man City moved so quickly to sign the defender?

Long-term injuries sustained by Josko Gvardiol (fractured leg) and Ruben Dias (hamstring) have effectively forced the club into the transfer market.

Manager Pep Guardiola wass having to rely on the inexperienced Max Alleyne, with John Stones also still absent due to injury.

Guehi is a leader at the back, having been made captain by Palace on a full-time basis last summer. Despite still only being in his mid-20s, he also has plenty of matches under his belt, having made 249 appearances in senior football.

At international level, the defender has been capped 26 times by England, having helped the Three Lions to the final of the European Championships in the summer of 2024.
