Marc Guehi transfer fee to Man City emerges as Crystal Palace make official announcement

Liverpool saw a move for Marc Guehi collapse in the summer transfer window.

Crystal Palace have confirmed that Marc Guehi’s move to Manchester City is edging closer.

The centre-back is on the verge of joining Manchester City - months after seeing a switch to Liverpool collapse. The Reds agreed a £35 million fee with Palace but had the plug pulled on summer transfer deadline day.

Guehi is out of contract at the end of the season and Palace are open to a sale during the January transfer window rather than lose their captain for free in the summer.

With City suffering injuries to Josko Gvardiol, Ruben Dias and John Stones, they have swooped for the England international. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Pep Guardiola’s side will pay around £20 million for Guehi.

Romano posted on X: “Marc Guehi to Manchester City, HERE WE GO! Official proposal accepted by Crystal Palace right now — understand fee will be around £20m. Guehi has ACCEPTED move to #MCFC.”

Palace head coach Oliver Glasner confessed that Guehi will not be part of their squad for tomorrow’s Premier League clash against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. “My latest understanding is the deal with Marc is in the final stages,” said Glasner at his pre-match press conference. “I can’t confirm the club because it’s still not done but the result is that Marc doesn’t play tomorrow for us.

“I mentioned it a few weeks ago when I was pretty clear; every player, depending on their contract situation, there is a price if a club says we want to do it. When the player says I want to move on, a deal will happen and it looks like this happens now.

“Everyone wanted Marc to stay forever but reality is different. I had a talk to him but, of course, it stays between us. Marc has shown in the summer transfer window and the whole autumn that he was 100 per cent committed and I wish him all the best for the rest of his career. He will have a great future because he’s a fantastic player and a fantastic guy.”

Glasner also dropped the bombshell that he will leave Selhurst Park at the end of his contract in June.

Liverpool are light in defence for the second half of the season, with Conor Bradley suffering a serious knee injury. The right-back joins Giovanni Leoni (ACL) on the treatment table, with the pair ruled out for the rest of the campaign. Head coach Arne Slot has suggested that it’s not guaranteed the Reds will sign a replacement this month. Speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash against Burnley, Slot said: I think everyone is aligned about the challenges we are facing. That’s not to say that we’re going to act, but everyone is aligned on what we are facing. There is no one that has a different opinion about it. But that’s not to say that anything is going to happen.”

Liverpool were hoping that they could sign Guehi on a free transfer but they will now have to assess alternative options. The likes of Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck and Club Brudgge’s Joel Ordonez have been linked.
