Liverpool fans will have every right to be upset with the Marc Guehi saga has now eventually played out. Manchester City have agreed a deal in principle for Marc Guehi, and the Cityzens have struck a bargain fee.
Palace were hoping £40m for their captain this month, but it seems the transfer prowess of the City Group has cut that figure in half.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that City will sign the England international for only £20m, with Guehi having accepted the move to the Etihad.
“Marc Guehi to Manchester City, HERE WE GO!”
“Official proposal accepted by Crystal Palace right now — understand fee will be around £20m. Guehi has ACCEPTED move to Man City”
“Exclusive story, now confirmed.”
Meanwhile, the BBC’s Sami Mokbel has reported that Guehi is now poised to complete a long-term move to City this month, with only final details to iron out. Personal terms are yet to be officially settled but are expected to pose no obstacle to the transfer.
Additionally, Palace boss Oliver Glasner has also pretty much confirmed the deal, saying in his pre-Sunderland press conference:
“My latest understanding is that the deal with Marc is in the final stages… I cannot confirm the club, because it’s still not done, but in the final stages, and the result is that Marc doesn’t play tomorrow for us.”
For Palace, the £20 million represents damage limitation on what was always going to be a tricky financial situation.
