West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta reportedly wants out of the club this January transfer window, and Chelsea have now been linked with a shock move to sign the midfielder before the close of the window.
Paqueta has been in the headlines alot over the past few weeks ever since news broke that he would like to leave the Premier League strugglers and make a move back to his homeland and play for Flamengo.
The root of Paqueta’s unhappiness in England can be traced back to the high-profile investigation by the Football Association into spot-fixing allegations. Although the Brazilian international was eventually cleared of the charges, the ordeal has reportedly left a deep psychological scar. The case not only tarnished his reputation for a period but also scuppered a dream £80m move to Manchester City in the summer of 2023
However – it has been claimed in the Sun website that CHELSEA are very much interested in signing Paqueta this transfer window to add some muc needed depth to the side, and it is claimed the Blues will provide competition to Brazilian side Flamengo to sign him in this window.
However, a switch to another club in Europe is being ruled out as the midfielder is keen on getting out of Europe and making that move back to Flamengo.
The London club find themselves in a precarious position, currently sitting seven points adrift of safety in the Premier League relegation zone. While they acknowledge Paqueta’s desire to leave, they view his presence as critical to their hopes of avoiding the drop to the Championship.
Consequently, the board has adopted a firm stance: Paqueta can secure his permanent transfer now, but he must see out the season in claret and blue before packing his bags
IcFootballnews Says…
A few seasons ago, Paqueta almost made that big move to City, almost made that step up, but obviously all that investigation happened and he has had to get his career back on track.
He is a massive player for the Hammers, so the news that he wants out is a massive blow, especially at this stage of the season. But if he does leave, it will not be for CHELSEA.
When he does go, it will surely be for a move back to his homeland.
