Newcastle United are set to experience some Carabao Cup deja vu next month with Marc Guehi set to face the Magpies in the semi-finals.
After Newcastle were floored by Antoine Semenyo in the first leg of the last four contest after already appearing for Bournemouth this season, Guehi helped Crystal Palace to reach the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup and played against Millwall, Liverpool and Arsenal in the competition already.
In days gone by, he would have been "cup-tied", but the rules have been altered this term, meaning players can appear for two clubs in the EFL competition.
When asked if he was bitter about the rule change, Eddie Howe said this week: “No, I don’t think bitter is the right word. I think the rules are the rules, they’re there. I don’t think I can focus on that too much."
Speaking about transfers this afternoon, Pep Guardiola said: "We are in a difficult situation. Imagine he (Semenyo) played two games here and did not score any goals?
"That is a disaster window. But I don't judge.
"He is here for four or five years and I judge on that, not two games."
Speaking on his £20m sale to Man City, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner said: "Everyone wanted Marc [Guehi] to stay forever.
"I talked to him, of course, it stays between us. Marc shown it in the summer transfer window, shown it the whole autumn that he was 100% committed to the team and to Crystal Palace.
"I wish him all the best for the rest of his career. He is still at the beginning of his great career. He is a fantastic guy."
