The Miami Heat are unlikely to aggressively pursue Ja Morant on the trade market, as they’re planning for the 2028 free agency, when players like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, and Donovan Mitchell could become available.
The Miami Heat are reportedly not going to aggressively pursue Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant approaching the trade deadline, despite the rumors.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Heat are planning for the 2028 free agency, when players like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, and Donovan Mitchell could become available, and are highly unlikely to deviate from that plan.
“The Miami Heat, in particular, have been overstated as a potential destination,” Windhorst reports.
“The Heat have been laser-focused on avoiding taking on money for the 2027–28 offseason, a season when, as of right now, Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, and Donovan Mitchell, among others, could all be unrestricted free agents. It’s highly unlikely the Heat would deviate from that plan to go after Morant,” he adds.

According to earlier reports, Miami is a preferred landing destination for Morant, with him reportedly even buying a $3.2 million home in Miami three weeks ago amid the rumors.
Morant’s on-court production this season has been uneven. He has appeared in 18 games, averaging 19.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 7.6 assists per game.
His shooting has been a concern, as he is connecting on 40.1% from the field and only 20.8% from beyond the arc. Those efficiency numbers are lower than expected for a player with such a big offensive role.
Still, Morant remains one of the league’s most dangerous guards. His explosiveness with the ball, ability to attack the rim, and vision as a passer continue to stand out.
