Report: Chelsea will have to pay a Kylian Mbappe type fee if they want to sign ‘fantastic’ player this month

Chelsea are running out of time if they want to make any new signings in January to help bolster the chances of their new manager.

More than halfway through the transfer window, the biggest piece of news involving Blues is the pending exit of Facundo Buonanotte. He is set to join Leeds United, ending his loan spell at Stamford Bridge.

The last two January transfer windows have not seen much business involving Chelsea, however they are being linked to a number of top players this month.

One position they tried to strengthen heavily into over the summer is wingers. The Blues signed Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho and Estevao Willian to replace Noni Madueke and Jadon Sancho.

Chelsea would have to pay Kylian Mbappe fee to sign Mateus Mane in January

Recent weeks have seen the Premier League lit up by Mateus Mane, who is giving Wolves a faint hope at staying in the top flight.

Chelsea have reportedly already touched base regarding Mane, and even though they look set to be relegated any deal in January is not going to be available on the cheap.

According to the Mail Online, a prominent Premier League side have already discovered that it would take an offer equivalent to one that would sign Kylian Mbappe in order to prise him from Molineux.

Up to now, Mane has played just 10 Premier League games, scoring twice and assisting once. In that time, he has been described as ‘fantastic’ by Rob Edwards (BBC Sport)

At 18 years of age, he represents the type of opportunity the club are always keen to capitalise on, and if Wolves go down expect the Blues to be in the conversation to sign him.

Chelsea now strongly linked to January signing

After it looked as if Chelsea were not going to do any meaningful business this month, it now looks as if they are keen to strike a deal in the next couple of weeks.

The Blues reportedly want another centre-back for Liam Rosenior, with the effects of no Levi Colwill now affecting another manager.

The defensive performance against Arsenal was a real concern, and has only given the Blues a faint hope of going through to the Carabao Cup final.

It remains to be seen if it is a big name who comes through the door, however the chances are low for it to be Marc Guehi, who is strongly linked with a switch to Manchester City.
