Liverpool have until the deadline on Monday 2nd February to complete any incoming or outgoing bits of business

Liverpool return to Premier League duties this weekend with a home clash against Burnley. They are currently sat in 4th place in the table after 21 fixtures and have 35 points on the board. Arne Slot’s side are inside the top four along with Arsenal, Manchester City and Aston Villa.

The Reds take on a Clarets side on Saturday who are inside the bottom three along with Wolves and West Ham. Slot’s men won 4-1 against Barnsley in the third round of the FA Cup last time out. Dominik Szoboszlai, Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike got their goals against the Tykes.

Liverpool transfer update shared by journalist James Pearce

Speaking on the Walk On podcast, journalist James Pearce has said Liverpool will move for the right transfer target this winter if an opportunity arises. The Reds have until the end of the January window to freshen up their squad. Pearce hasn’t ruled out the possibility of incomings at Anfield.

He has said: “Well, I certainly, I don’t think it’s as kind of cut and dry as they won’t do business this month. I think it’s more from what I’ve been told. It’s like, if the right opportunity comes up, they’ll move for it. But at the minute, they don’t see the right opportunity. And obviously, if they had done, they would have moved by now because we’re already halfway through the January window.

“So yeah, I think we know from, certainly from Michael Edwards’ reign as sporting director, that Liverpool won’t go down the route of short-term fixes.”

Liverpool were very active on the recruitment front last summer and delved into the market to land the likes of Wirtz, Frimpong, Ekitike and Alexander Isak, among others. It has taken a while for their additions to all gel together though, hence why they aren’t challenging at the top of the league right now. Slot will hope his team can build some momentum over the coming weeks.

What has Arne Slot said about transfers this winter?

Liverpool head coach Slot said earlier this month that he was ‘happy’ with his squad. It remains to be seen whether his stance has changed now, particularly after Conor Bradley’s injury. The Reds may benefit from some cover in the right-back position and potentially in the heart of defence as well.

Slot said: “First of all, I'm really happy with the squad we are having. All the decisions that are made last summer and the summer before and all these things are completely aligned with me and Richard [Hughes] and ownership. So, I think it has shown this season how talented this group is and if everyone is available how good of a team we can be.”

He added: “This club is in a very good place if everyone is available, and we are getting stronger and stronger, then this club is in a really good place for the short future but definitely also for the mid- to long-term future.”

Liverpool need to start thinking about a long-term replacement for Ibrahima Konate. He is out of contract in June and is due to become a free agent as things stand. They have been linked with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi for a while now but weren’t able to get a deal over the line for him last year and he has since stayed put at Selhurst Park.
