Harry Maguire’s contract at Man United is due to expire at the end of the season.

Much of Man United’s January transfer talk surrounds players who could leave rather than join, with three key veterans likely to move on in the summer. Firstly, Casemiro is out of contract, and no new deal has yet been agreed for the midfielder.

Finally, Harry Maguire is also out of contract at the end of the season, and it is also understood that the club aren’t going to offer the English centre-back a new deal, meaning they’ll need to replace him.

Man United plot move for Murillo

Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo is regarded as one of the best young defenders in the Premier League. He has been a long-term target for rivals Chelsea, who are desperate to upgrade at the centre-back position, to boost their chances of becoming a title contender.

Murillo has made 15 Premier League appearances for Forest this season, and with Sean Dyche’s side languishing near the relegation zone, he could be keen to force a move to a bigger club in the summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Man United are considering making a move for Murillo, as they view him as a long-term replacement for Maguire, assuming that he leaves in the summer. The same report also includes details which say Murillo will be open to leaving the City Ground in the summer, which could open the door to United.

He has an estimated market value of £48m, but based on his quality, the demand for him, and his age, Nottingham Forest would likely demand a much higher fee to try and put clubs off swooping in to sign him.

Man United is also targeting a Serie A Maguire replacement

As far as transfer rumours go, they do suggest that Maguire will leave in the summer, as United have been linked to several centre-back targets in the past couple of weeks. One of those names, alongside Murillo, is Sassuolo defender Tarik Muharemovic.

If Leipzig were to make a move, United would have to act fast; if not, they would have to consider other targets. It certainly feels like Muharemovic is more of a January target, and Murillo is more of a summer target, but only time will tell.
