Paris Saint-Germain have made Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez a top transfer target for next season. The French champions have reportedly spoken informally with the player’s representatives. After Chelsea’s coaching change, PSG became interested in the Argentine international. However, a move is likely to take place in the summer rather than in January.
Since joining Chelsea from Benfica for a British record £106.8 million in January 2023, Fernandez has played in 145 games. The 24-year-old has been a key player at Stamford Bridge, helping the Blues win the Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup in 2025. He has scored seven goals and set up 17 others this season, and he often wears the captain’s armband.
It’s interesting that PSG chose this time to make their move. When Enzo Maresca left Chelsea on New Year’s Day 2026, things changed a lot at the Bridge, as Liam Rosenior took his place. That change has left a few important players at Stamford Bridge in the dark. Fernandez publicly thanked Maresca for their two unforgettable titles together, suggesting the managerial change has affected his thinking about his long-term future in west London.
Fernandez changed agents in December 2025, signing with The Elegant Game agency, which was co-founded by former PSG star Javier Pastore. This only added to the rumors. That move has naturally led people to wonder if a move to Paris is in the works. The Argentine is still under contract with Chelsea until 2032, so any deal would require a lot of negotiation and a hefty transfer fee.
PSG won the Champions League last season, but they haven’t been able to keep up their good form in Ligue 1 this season and are behind RC Lens, who are in first place. Luis Enrique, the manager, is said to think that the team has become too comfortable and needs new competition in the middle of the field.
Rosenior Talks About Chelsea’s Transfer Plans
Liam Rosenior, Chelsea’s new manager, has talked about how he will handle transfers in January. He says that any new players must be a good fit for the team. This month, the west London club are getting ready to go after a center-back. Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes and Jacobo Ramon from Como are two of the players they might go after.
Last summer, Enzo Maresca, the team’s former manager, asked for a center back after Levi Colwill badly hurt his ACL. However, his request was turned down. Now that Rosenior has signed a long-term deal, the team’s leaders seem more willing to support their new coach.
Rosenior was careful when talking about possible business in January.
“I also think sometimes the answers lie within the building and not outside. So I’ll make a decision on that with the guys. Probably later in the week when I’ve seen everyone,” he said.
Chelsea’s bigger plan for hiring includes a new central midfielder and an attacker, but these moves are not expected to happen until the summer window. This month, the Blues are still open to opportunities if the right player becomes available.
