Liverpool players completed their final preparations ahead of facing Burnley this weekend, while the transfer window continued to bring fresh drama.
It now appears that Marc Guehi will not be joining the Premier League champions, with the Crystal Palace defender set to move to Manchester City – just months after being on the verge of a switch to Merseyside.
This will be a blow to the Reds, though Arne Slot’s side are enjoying a strong run, remaining unbeaten in their last 11 games across all competitions. Slot said on Friday: “Ideally it’s not 11 games unbeaten, it’s 11 wins in a row.
“That’s always where you’re aiming for. If that is realistic, it might be for some teams, I think [Aston] Villa won a lot of games in a row. But from where we were when we conceded the fourth goal against PSV [Eindhoven] and then where we are now, I think we are in a much better place.
“But there’s still enough room for improvement but that room for improvement was also there last season when we were top of the league and top of the Champions League in this period of time. We haven’t put ourselves in the most ideal position, especially if you compare it to where we were after six games.”
The Reds will be looking to extend that streak against Burnley on Saturday, but they may have another concern ahead of the match. Alexis Mac Allister was absent from training at the AXA Training Centre, which could raise questions about his fitness on the eve of the game.
The Argentine midfielder started in Monday’s FA Cup win over Barnsley. The 27-year-old World Cup winner has racked up 29 appearances, scored one goal, and provided four assists for Liverpool across all competitions this season.
