Anthony Edwards' Latest Injury Reveal Raises More Questions

As the Minnesota Timberwolves paid a visit to the Milwaukee Bucks on January 13, Anthony Edwards was ruled out due to a foot-related issue.

Fortunately, the Timberwolves managed to make it out of Wisconsin with a dominant 139-16 victory. It was the first game Edwards missed since December 17.

When the Timberwolves take on the Houston Rockets on Friday night, Edwards is expected to be out once again. On the injury report, he's listed as out due to foot injury maintenance. ESPN NBA Insider Shams Charania explained that Edwards' setback is slightly more complicated than injury maintenance.

Charania reveals that Edwards has an infection in his toe. Therefore, the Timberwolves can't place an actual timeline on Edwards' return, since there is an actual recovery period he'll need to go through.

Is There a Timeline?

No setback is great for any team. At the very least, the Timberwolves can feel optimistic about Edwards returning to the court soon.

The team will reportedly move forward with Edwards, considered to be day-to-day. The Timberwolves don't seem to be anticipating a long period without their star guard.

Friday night will mark the third stretch of games Edwards will miss for Minnesota this year. He was out for four games in a row in late October into early November. In December, Edwards missed three more games. Friday's action will be his second absence in a row.

Without Edwards, the Timberwolves are 5-3 this season. They have proven they can pick up some wins in the short-term without the veteran. However, his production has been on another level by his own standards this year. Currently, Edwards is averaging a career-high 28.9 points per game, while making 50 percent of his shots from the field.

Edwards is shooting at a 40 percent clip from three on 8.2 attempts per game, which marks a career-high.

After the Timberwolves wrap up with the Rockets on Friday, they'll face the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday to close out a back-to-back. If Edwards can't play at all, his next possible return date would come on January 20, when the Timberwolves pay a visit to the Utah Jazz.
