The January transfer window has brought fresh challenges for Liverpool, with news affecting a long-standing target. The Reds have yet to sign any first-team players this month, while Conor Bradley’s season-ending injury adds to Arne Slot’s concerns.
Liverpool have also been without key figures such as Alexander Isak, Geovani Leoni, Jeremie Frimpong, and Joe Gomez for extended periods this season.
With injuries mounting, attention now turns to potential moves in the transfer market. Ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Burnley, Slot said: I think everyone is aligned about the challenges we are facing.
“That’s not to say that we are going to act, but everyone is aligned on what we are facing. There’s no-one who has a different opinion about it. But that’s not to say that anything is going to happen.”
Andy Robertson’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he has hinted he could leave Anfield after nine years at the club. Ibrahima Konate is also out of contract, with his future uncertain following reports that Real Madrid ended their pursuit of him over the summer.
According to The Athletic, Rhys Williams is nearing the end of his Liverpool career. The 24-year-old could go out on loan soon and will certainly depart on a permanent basis when his contract ends this season.
Williams is remembered for helping Liverpool secure a top-four finish in the injury-hit 2020/21 campaign, but he has struggled for game time since, even spending last season at League Two side Morecambe, making 33 appearances.
Williams progressed through Liverpool’s Academy to feature for the senior team. He joined the club at under-10 level and advanced through every age group, signing his first professional contract in February 2019.
In the same season, Williams was part of Liverpool’s FA Youth Cup-winning squad, with the Reds triumphing over Manchester City in a penalty shootout.
