Liverpool face the prospect of an unwanted club record as they welcome Burnley to Anfield for Saturday’s Premier League fixture. Having already dropped points at home to newly-promoted Leeds United and Sunderland this season, the Reds could, for the first time in the Premier League era, go an entire campaign without a home league win against promoted sides.

While Liverpool remain unbeaten, victories have been elusive in recent weeks. Under Arne Slot, they have drawn their last three Premier League matches since the start of the year. Draws against Leeds and Fulham were seen as missed opportunities, while last weekend’s goalless draw with Arsenal was a hard-fought point, though it was overshadowed by Gabriel Martinelli’s contentious challenge on the injured Conor Bradley.

Currently, Liverpool sit two points clear of Brentford in the race for the final Champions League spot, with Newcastle United and Manchester United also in close pursuit. Slot’s side did return to winning ways on Monday night, dispatching Barnsley 4-1 in the FA Cup third round and extending their unbeaten run to 11 matches in all competitions since November’s Champions League loss to PSV Eindhoven. The imminent return of Mohamed Salah from the Africa Cup of Nations will further strengthen Liverpool’s attack, which has been less prolific this season—their average of 14.7 shots per game in the Premier League is their lowest since 2001-02.

Burnley, meanwhile, would be grateful for even a fraction of Liverpool’s attacking threat, as their winless streak in the Premier League has now reached 12 matches. Scott Parker’s side have suffered nine defeats and three draws since their dramatic 3-2 victory at Wolverhampton Wanderers in October, though three of those draws have come in their last five games following a dispiriting run of seven straight losses. Most recently, Burnley held Darren Fletcher’s Manchester United to a 2-2 draw at Turf Moor on January 7, but remain 19th in the table, eight points from safety and just six ahead of a resurgent Wolves.

Like Liverpool, Burnley found some respite in the FA Cup, cruising to a 5-1 win over Millwall—only their fifth victory in all competitions this season. However, the Clarets are still searching for their first away clean sheet of the 2025-26 campaign, and September’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Liverpool extended their losing run against the Reds to six consecutive Premier League matches.
