TJ McConnell delivered a rare moment of history for the Indiana Pacers during a difficult season.
Indiana Pacers / Schedule
The veteran guard became just the second player in NBA history to reach 3,000 career assists off the bench in Indiana’s 127-119 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday. The only other player to reach that mark is Lou Williams.
McConnell reached the milestone early in the game, recording the historic assist in the first quarter. The moment quickly drew a reaction from Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton, who called the achievement ‘crazy’ and ‘special’ on social media.
Now in his 11th NBA season, McConnell has built a long career as one of the league’s most reliable reserve guards.
This season, McConnell is averaging 10.0 points and 4.9 assists, often providing stability when Indiana struggles to find rhythm.
Indiana currently sits at 10-32, last in the Eastern Conference. Haliburton has missed time with an Achilles injury, forcing Andrew Nembhard into a larger role, while Pascal Siakam has carried most of the scoring load.
