Man Utd are being linked with a top La Liga talent as they move on from the Ruben Amorim era at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are eyeing players to bolster their midfield as new names continue to be linked with Old Trafford.
Former United midfielder Michael Carrick will take charge of the club for the remaining 17 games of the campaign as he looks to guide the Red Devils back into the Champions League. With no European football and early cup exits, United’s only focus is their league campaign.
It will give Carrick plenty of time on the training ground to get his ideas across and plenty of recovery time for the squad.
According to reports in Spain from Fichajes, United are preparing an £86m bid to sign Pablo Barrios from Atletico Madrid as the club “have identified the young Spaniard as the ideal playmaker for their new project.”
Barrios is under contract in the Spanish capital until 2030 but the player’s potential move to United is said to be depend on who the club’s permanent manager is for the start of next season. The Red Devils have given Carrick the rest of the season to take charge of the squad as they plot a move for a permanent successor for the start of the 2026-27 campaign.
Barrios, 22, has been with Atletico his entire career - having joined the club as a youth player in 2017. He did spend four years with Real Madrid in their academy. He has been capped four times by Spain.
He has seven goals and eight assists in 131 games for Atletico’s senior side. Reports from Be Soccer last month claimed that both Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur were eyeing Barrios.
Speaking about Barrios when he was becoming a key member of the starting XI, Atleti boss Diego Simeone said: “He has a fantastic game, and I told him that we’re going to work to shape it. Koke is there now and we are trying to bring out Pablo’s full potential. He has to grow, but he’s doing very well. I’m excited. He’s a kid from the academy, and he can play several roles.”
