Chelsea must move immediately if they want to sign a promising youngster on the cheap.

Chelsea must move quickly if they want to land an available young talent, with another club now reportedly moving quickly. The Blues are now in a new era following the appointment of Liam Rosenior, and much of their focus will be on securing back-to-back Champions League qualification, though though they have ground to make up on that front.

But Chelsea will also continue building for the future as they continue their strategy of signing young players with big upsides on relatively affordable fees. The Blues have done much of their shopping for their young talents in South America, but this month, there is a unique opportunity to land a European talent on the cheap.

That’s because Barcelona starlet Dro Fernandez is available for as little as £5.2million due to a release clause the Blaugrana have neglected to address. The 18-year-old attacking midfielder, who has appeared in four LaLiga games and a Champions League fixture this season, is of serious interest to Chelsea and Manchester City, according to Talksport.

But in a fresh update from Fabrizio Romano, PSG have stepped in, taking concrete steps towards a deal and perhaps becoming the favourites to win the race. Romano posted on X: “Paris Saint-Germain have presented their contract proposal to Dro who’s set to leave Barcelona. PSG are pushing to sign 18 year old midfielder with talks already underway behind the scenes — for €6m release clause.”

Dro is under contract until 2027 at Barca, and it’s not out of the question that the Catalan giants improve his contract and significantly up that release clause. But with interest from PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City, Barca must move quickly and convince the youngster that his future is not best spent away from Camp Nou. The race is on.
