Warriors Anthony Davis trade plans revealed

NBA insiders reveal that the Golden State Warriors are not pursuing a trade for Anthony Davis. With Davis recovering from a hand injury and a potential return in March, trading Draymond Green for him does not make sense. Even if healthy, Davis’ availability has been an issue, and he is expected to remain with the Mavericks past the trade deadline.

Golden State Warriors’ plans regarding Anthony Davis have been revealed, and NBA insiders say a trade is off the table for now. Tim Bontemps and Anthony Slater discussed the situation on Warriors Stock Report, putting an end to speculation about the Mavericks star joining Golden State.

“I have thought for a while that Anthony Davis made a lot of sense for the Warriors,” Bontemps said. “And that was the move that I could see them making that would have potentially solved a lot of issues all at once. However, that is now off the board, I would say. It might be on the board for other teams.”

Slater, who covers the Warriors for ESPN, added why a deal does not make sense for the team at this moment.

“I sense zero appetite for that right now from the Warriors,” Slater said. “… Not only trading for a guy, but you would very likely trade Draymond Green in that scenario. And it’s like imagine trading Draymond Green for a guy who, like, ‘He might be back around playoff time.'”

Davis had been expected to miss months after suffering ligament damage in his left hand. He decided against surgery that could have ended his season, with reports saying he will be reevaluated in six weeks. This puts a potential return for Davis in March at the earliest.

While Golden State has been on a strong run, going 10-4 in its last 14 games, trading a key piece like Draymond Green for an injured Davis would have hurt the team’s playoff chances.

The Warriors currently sit 8th in the Western Conference with a 23-19 record and risk sliding down the standings if Green and other players were moved while Davis is sidelined.

Even if Davis were healthy, the trade would still be risky. Before the hand injury, he had already missed 18 of Dallas’ first 38 games this season.

While he is performing at a high level, averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game in 2025-26, his availability has been a concern.

For Golden State, while a trade for Davis is off the table, other moves remain possible before the Feb. 5 trade deadline. Forward Jonathan Kuminga has requested a trade, and several teams, including the Mavericks, have been linked to him.
