Chelsea€50m offer prepared–Blues may need to add€10m for success

Chelsea are keen on signing Stade Rennais’ Jérémy Jacquet in the winter market.

That’s according to RMC Sport, and they report the 20-year-old is attracting interest from several clubs. There’s no mention of the details of any other club apart from Liam Rosenior’s side.

As RMC have it, Chelsea are the ‘frontrunner’ to secure the France U21 international’s services this month.

The centre-back is a product of the Ligue 1 side’s youth system and made his way into the first team in 2024. He spent last season on loan at Ligue 2 side Clermont Foot 63.

In the summer, Arsenal looked at the possibility of acquiring his signature, but the defender wasn’t keen on joining them. The youngster’s decision has paid off as he’s started in 16 Ligue 1 matches this season.

Jacquet’s performances for Stade Rennais have caught the attention of several clubs across Europe.

RMC Sport state Chelsea are in the lead and are ‘making a strong push’ to bring him to Stamford Bridge in January.

According to the report, the two clubs have already started talks to discuss the defender’s price. Chelsea have indicated to Stade Rennais that they are ready to make an initial bid of €50m. They haven’t made an offer so far and if they propose €50m, it may not be accepted.

The French club are looking for over €60m for Jacquet, which is ambitious to say the least. There is no clarity whether the Club World Cup winners are willing to meet their demand.

Journalist Fabrice Hawkins covered this report. He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to add that Jacquet is the priority target for Chelsea in January.

Online, he points out the young Frenchman isn’t the only name on Chelsea’s list. They want a new centre-back this month.

If they are unable to make advances to sign Jacquet, the Blues could move on to other targets.
