Michael Carrick takes charge of his first match as Man Utd head coach when they face Manchester City.

Roy Keane has voiced fresh criticism against Michael Carrick ahead of his first match as Manchester United head coach against Man City. Carrick will take charge of his first match since being appointed head coach when United host City in the derby clash at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime.

Keane made headlines earlier in the week when he took a dig at Carrick's wife for having a 'big mouth' and even joked 'she was probably doing the team talk' at Old Trafford. The feud stems from a public interaction in 2014 when Keane criticised Carrick following a poor performance against Olympiacos. “That interview was just like the performance: flat," Keane said at the time. "He should say a bit more, have a bit more urgency, even in the interview.” Lisa Carrick hit back at those comments when she wrote on social media: “Roy Keane what a **** says anything to provoke a reaction.”

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Carrick insisted the personal criticism 'didn't bother him' and it was 'irrelevant' what pundits thought of him. He could be asked about those comments again after Keane voiced fresh criticism ahead of the match.

Roy Keane slams Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick

Roy Keane was on punditry duty for Manchester United's clash with Man City in the Premier League and used the platform to voice fresh concern towards the appointment of Michael Carrick.

Speaking ahead of the match, Keane was asked for his verdict on the managerial change at Old Trafford: "I'm more concerned with the appointment, the staff that have come in with the manager," he told Sky Sports. "But I think I would be like that with most people at this stage of the season. Looking at the players they have, it is going to be a big ask.

"You look at Michael Carrick, whatever his remit was at Middlesbrough, I am pretty sure it was to get promoted. He didn't do that. He failed there. But it doesn't mean to say he is a bad manager. Obviously it is a difficult job, but to get the opportunity was great for him.

"If you look at the staff he has brought in, we sit here every week and talk about Man United being the best of the best. At this moment in time, I don't see that. With the appointment and the staff, but it doesn't mean to say they can't get the results. I am concerned, but then I said that about the previous manager."

Keane later added: "It just seems a bit of a circus act at the moment. But if they start well and get momentum, I still think there's a great chance for the team to get in the Champions League, which has got to be the aim!"
