Albion expect to wear blue at Anfield but how many fans will they take?

The club have asked to wear their traditional home kit in the fourth-round tie.

They opted for a purple away strip in the league game at Anfield in December, which they lost 2-0.

But the Seagulls have generally worn blue when taking on the Reds of Anfield.

Albion have subsidised some ticket prices for the game, which takes place at 8pm on Saturday, February 14.

They are also offering those who buy tickets the chance to purchase a replica home shirt at a discount.

Asked whether they would be wearing blue and white on the night, Albion chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber said: “Provided the authorities sanction that, we will be.

“That's obviously something which we will talk to them about. But we see no reason why we won't be wearing blue and white for that game.”

Albion took about 1,000 fans to the third-round tie with Manchester United, some of them holding banners urging the FA and TV companies to stop exploiting loyalty.

That message appears to have fallen on deaf ears with the scheduling of the Anfield clash.

Barber hopes the reduced prices, compared to the £45 season ticket holders had to pay at Anfield, will help attract a bigger away following.

Liverpool will be aware they could sell the tickets to their own fans, and increase their home advantage, if they are not taken up by the away club.

But their adult prices of up to £34, before any discount, still compare favourably with the £55 at United for non-season ticket holders.

Barber said: “The FA Cup rules mean that we should be able to take, certainly a minimum of 3,000, but more than that will be discussions that our team will be having with Liverpool.

“We will certainly be looking to take as many people as possible within the rules.”

Barnsley took almost 6,000 fans to the third-round tie at Anfield, which has a capacity of 61,000.

In theory, away clubs can have an allocation of 15% of capacity, but that depends on the approval of the local safety advisory group.
