Journalist thinks Liverpool are now set to do something ‘crazy’ in this January transfer window

Liverpool fans have been left wanting as their club remains passive in the transfer market.

With over two weeks of the window now behind us, the Reds have not added a first-team player to their squad.

As FSG and co. sit on their hands, their rivals are making moves, including Manchester City paying £20m for Marc Guehi.

Elsewhere, Jeremy Jacquet, who has been scouted by Liverpool this season, is now wanted by Chelsea.

Both players joining fellow English clubs would be especially frustrating given they are centre-backs and the Merseyside outfit are very light in that position.

Liverpool transfer plan is ‘crazy’

However, despite Arne Slot’s side being one defensive injury away from something of a disaster, it doesn’t appear as though we will see any new arrivals this month.

David Lynch has discussed Liverpool’s transfer plans with Sports Mole and said that, from speaking to people he knows, the Reds are not expected to go into the market, which he says is ‘crazy’.

He said: “I think they should go into the market, but I don’t expect that they will. That’s from speaking to people around it and just knowing how Liverpool work.

“The expectation at the moment is that they’re very unlikely to do something, which is I think is crazy, as you say.

“I think it’s madness really that Liverpool, at the moment, they don’t expect to do anything. I think they should do anything that they can move forward when the summer comes around. Is there any of those plan moves that they can do now?”

Why won’t Liverpool spend in January

It really is a baffling situation, given the position Liverpool have fallen to in the league this season and the serious need for defensive reinforcements.

Previously, there have been messages from the club that the transfer budget is not unlimited.

But Liverpool made a £35m offer for Guehi in the summer and did not sign an alternative, so that money should still be there.

In theory, FSG could spend £100m this month if they wanted, so why the lack of signings?

Well, one theory could be that Liverpool are planning to dismiss Slot in the summer and don’t want to give the Dutchman even more money before getting in a new manager.
