Michael Carrick orchestrated one of Manchester United's most impressive performances of the last decade, leading the team to a resounding 2-0 derby victory over local rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Despite heading into the match with trepidation, United managed to keep the scoreline at nil-nil in the first half, even creating the better opportunities. The home side had two goals disallowed due to late offside calls, while Harry Maguire hit the crossbar from just six yards out.

The second half saw no let-up from United, who started strongly and were rewarded with a goal in the 65th minute. Bryan Mbeumo slipped past the City defence to score comfortably, before Patrick Dorgu added a touch of class with a second goal 11 minutes later. Daily Star Sport has rated their performances after an incredible derby day win.

Manchester United's Danish defender #13 Patrick Dorgu (2L) celebrates with teammates after scoring their second goal during the English Premier League football match between Manchester United and Manchester City at Old Trafford in Manchester, north west England, on January 17, 2026.

Senne Lammens, 6 - He probably didn't anticipate such a quiet afternoon against the league's top scorers, but it was as comfortable as the goalkeeper could have hoped for, reports the Express.

Diogo Dalot, 3 - His knee-high, studs-first tackle on Doku wasn't deemed dangerous enough by VAR to warrant intervention. A stroke of luck for the full-back, whose efforts in the final third left much to be desired.

Harry Maguire, 8 - An absolute titan at the back, he didn't give Erling Haaland a look-in throughout the match. He's faced undue criticism during his time at United, but if this is to be his final season in red, the Englishman will look back on this performance with pride.

Lisandro Martinez, 8 - The second of the formidable centre-back duo and another who kept Haaland out of the game. After a lengthy injury layoff, the Argentine has had to bide his time, but blimey, is he a significant asset to this team.

Luke Shaw, 6 - He seemed unsteady in the early stages of the game and lunged into unnecessary tackles. However, after receiving an avoidable yellow card, he settled well.

Casemiro, 7 - The Brazilian rolled back the years and received a standing ovation as he left the pitch.

Bruno Fernandes, 8 - Fernandes loves a derby day and often saves his best performances for Manchester City - today was no different.

Kobbie Mainoo, 7 - He worked tirelessly in what was his first Premier League start of the season, exactly what the crowd wanted to see in this heated local clash.

Amad, 7 - Looked back to his best and was unlucky not to find the net when his late effort hit the post.

Patrick Dorgu, 9 - Who expected this? One of Carrick's surprise starters, but the wing-back, playing more like a traditional winger, was the standout player on the pitch. He rounded off a superb performance with a beautifully executed goal.

Bryan Mbeumo, 8 - What an impact he has on United's attack. Only the brilliance of Gianluigi Donnarumma stopped the forward from scoring sooner, but when given a breakaway opportunity 65 minutes into the match, he slotted it home confidently.
