REPORT: Arsenal Plotting Blockbuster Move For £52m Newcastle and England Gem

Arsenal are reportedly planning to sign a Newcastle star, who has also become part of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

The Gunners are currently on four the quadruple, and head into their next game against Nottingham Forest in a fantastic position. They are top of the Premier League table by six points, and could extend that lead if Man City drop points against Man United in the early kick-off on Saturday.

Mikel Arteta seems very happy with his current squad, and so isn’t likely to make any major signings in the January transfer window, but he will be planning his moves for the summer.

Last summer, Arsenal were linked to several winger targets, and with Gabriel Martinelli’s contract due to expire at the end of next season, it would be no surprise if they go after a winger again this year.

Arsenal re-kindle interest in Anthony Gordon

In the early part of last summer, reports linked the Gunners to Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, as it was understood that Arteta, and Sporting Director at the time, Edu, were big fans of him.

According to the Standard, rumours are emerging again which suggest that they could re-kindle their interest in Gordon, and potentially make a move to sign him in the summer, especially with Martinelli’s expiring contract.

The England international has made 27 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle this season, scoring eight goals, and providing four assists. He is also expecting to play a role in Tuchel’s World Cup squad in the summer.

Gordon won’t come cheap though, as Newcastle will be very reluctant to sell him. He has an estimated market value of around £52m, but it is likely that the Magpies will demand a lot more to try and keep hold of the former Everton star.

Could Martinelli leave in the summer?

Seeing as the Brazilian winger’s contract is due to expire in June 2027, he will have just one year left on his deal at the start of next season, so Arsenal will either likely sell him, or look to extend his contract.

Reports have linked Martinelli with a move away, both to European clubs and Saudi Pro League clubs, so they could cash in on the Brazilian, and replace him with Gordon.
