Opinion: 56-touch Chelsea player was the main reason Liam Rosenior beat Brentford, not the goalscorers

Chelsea managed to secure their first three points of the season against Brentford in a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

The pre-game at Stamford Bridge was very much about the peaceful protest that was held by supporters, as Chelsea fans voiced their frustrations with the owners.

There were murmurs during the game of discontent, but some of it was due to what the fans were seeing on the field, as it wasn’t as straightforward as 2-0 suggests.

Joao Pedro repaid his manager for giving him the starting role at the pinnacle of the attack with a goal, and was unlucky not to receive a Chelsea penalty in the first half.

A Cole Palmer penalty sealed all three points in the second-half, but it was the work of a player who went mostly unrecognised that really helped secure the points.

Robert Sanchez answers back after Arsenal calamity

Robert Sanchez took some flack for his double error against Arsenal, but Liam Rosenior stood by him and chose him as his number one against Brentford.

He repaid his manager in style.

It was one of the best games of the season for Sanchez. He looked assured in possession, his passing improved, and most importantly, he made some massive saves.

He made five saves in total, all of which were inside the box. And his expected goals prevented (xGP) was +1.54, which essentially means he stopped nearly two certain goals.

Most importantly, that was his ninth clean sheet of the season for the Blues.

What does the future hold for Filip Jorgensen?

Filip Jorgensen must be watching, thinking he’s never going to get a game.

The goalkeeper wants to play regular football, but that just doesn’t look possible at Chelsea, and you can’t blame him for that.

It’s been claimed that Jorgensen would be open to joining West Ham, but Liam Rosenior isn’t too keen on letting him leave at this moment in time.

This will no doubt rumble on towards the deadline, and should he leave, Chelsea will need to go out and find a replacement.
