There's less than half of the January transfer window still remaining – and Liverpool could still find themselves active in the market. The Reds have largely kept their power dry so far, save the signing of Mor Talla Ndiaye from Amitie, while James Norris has departed for Shelbourne.

Arne Slot famously spent £400million over the summer, signing the likes of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, though injuries have prompted questions about further investment. Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are out for the season while Isak's fractured leg will keep him out until the spring. However, early indications are that there is no reason to panic buy.

A move for Marc Guehi following Liverpool's interest in the summer seemed one of the window's likelier deals, but it now appears he will be joining Manchester City instead. On the pitch the Reds will now look forward to a trip to the Velodrome to face Marseille in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Off it, Mirror Football round up the latest transfer lines as the Reds face decisions over whether to shake up their squad in the next fortnight.

Liverpool handed defender warning

Former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant has warned the club they could suffer if they decide not to dip into the transfer market for a new right-back. Conor Bradley faces months on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury against Arsenal and Pennant is concerned the Reds have no margin for error on the injury front.

"I'm very disappointed in hearing that Liverpool won’t be signing a right-back, to not even look at maybe a loan option… if you don't want to spend money fair enough," he told talkSPORT. “We spent quite a lot in the summer, but some sort of cover, maybe someone who can even just sit on the bench.

“We are injury prone at the moment and down to bare bones and loads of games coming. We are still in loads of competitions and have got to try and maintain to keep in the top 4 for Champions League football.

“It's a little bit disappointing and as the hierarchy, the sporting director and the board should be looking at this thing if we don't get anyone in we are taking a gamble. If we get one more injury that could really destroy our season in every way shape and form."

Bayern's stance on Diomande move

RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande is one of the hottest prospects in world football and the Ivorian international has previously expressed a desire to play for Liverpool. "I’m a huge Liverpool fan. My dad dreams of seeing me play at Anfield!" he said in a video shared on social media earlier this month.

Liverpool aren't the only ones keen on the former Leganes star, who Leipzig value at a reported £86million. Bayern Munich have also been linked, as have a number of Liverpool's Premier League rivals, though Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund kept his cards close to his chest on the matter.

"He's a very good player who has developed very well," Freund said, per Sky Sport Deutschland "Whenever a young player performs really well in the Bundesliga, he gets linked with Bayern," he added, suggesting it's "not our place to comment on" the speculation.

Diomande, who is under contract at Red Bull Arena until 2030, is back from Africa Cup of Nations duty. He delivered six goals and three assists for Leipzig before linking up with his Cote d'Ivoire team-mates and scored in a round-of-16 win against Burkina Faso at AFCON.
