Keith Andrews rues missed chances after Chelsea defeat

The Bees fell to their first defeat of 2026, their first in the league since 6 December.

However, it was a performance that deserved a lot better and the Brentford head coach was adamant his side did on reflection.

"Yeah, I would say so. I think that's probably fair. Sometimes the game isn't fair. Ultimately, you've got to take the chances and the opportunities that you do create and muster up."

"You've got to control elements of the game a little bit better. But overall, I think when you look at the performance level today, it was of a very high level."

The Bees have struggled on their travels, winning just three times on the road this season prompting possible issues of confidence playing away from home.

Andrews reiterated by saying he 'didn't see a confidence issue' and praised Brentford for controlling large parts of the game against a midfield that cost £200m.

"Don't see a confidence issue. Won the last two games away from home. I know everybody looks at things in a very black and white sense sometimes around league form home versus away."

But I think if you follow us closely, you'll see that our performance levels in the main have been of a reasonable standard away from home. Like I said, won the last two and came here today and played very, very well."

Asked whether what message for the fans who turned up today, Andrews was upbeat and said those in the away end should be excited going in to the second-half of the season.

"Yeah they should be excited I think the levels of performance and the journey that the team is on is exciting. I'm excited by the team.

"I'm excited by the players and the steps that we're making. Game is about players and fans pretty simple really. You know we were all fans as kids growing up. We all wanted to be players. From here it came to an end had to do something else.

"So the fans being engaged like they are and that connection that they have with our players I think is pretty special. So good they enjoyed it today and we're engaged in it but equally I feel they'll be disappointed we didn't get some because we certainly are."
