As Manchester City gift Premier League title to Arsenal, it all opens up for Newcastle United

I spent an interesting Saturday afternoon lying on the sofa, watching Manchester City gift the title to Arsenal, whilst it all opened up for Newcastle United.

I couldn’t believe how feeble Manchester City were in the early kick-off.

Pep Guardiola and his players gifting Manchester United all three points.

It means Arsenal have surely secured the Premier League title already, as they will go nine points clear of Man City, if/when they win at relegation battling Forest in the late kick-off.

I also have to say, if Manchester City play like this in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg, it isn’t impossible for Eddie Howe’s side to turn it around. Newcastle were so unlucky in the first leg and no way did they deserve to lose.

Anyway, back to the Premier League fixtures on Saturday and this is how the matches played out this afternoon…

Man U 2 Man City 0

Chelsea 2 Brentford 0

Leeds 1 Fulham 0

Liverpool 1 Burnley 1

Sunderland 2 Crystal Palace 1

Tottenham 1 West Ham 2

What this has also done, is simply confirm how much things have opened up for Newcastle United in the league.

A complete transformation in Premier League fortunes, if United can win at Molineux on Sunday.

That would give Eddie Howe’s side a full 12 points from their last four PL games, send them up to fifth in the table and only a point behind Liverpool who are currently fourth.

If Newcastle win against Wolves, it would mean that in their last four Premier League games they had gained:

Eight points on Liverpool (four draws in their last four PL matches)

Nine points on Manchester City (three draws and one defeat in their last four PL games)

Seven points on Chelsea (one win, two draws and one defeat in their last four PL matches)

Six points on Man U (one win and three draws in their last four PL games)

As I said earlier, this just shows how quickly things can change in the Premier League, if you can put a run of wins together.

A win at Molineux would be huge for Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United players, I think they will make it four in a row for sure and be in such a strong position to qualify for Champions League football, for a third time in four seasons.
