It was all set up for Alejandro Garnacho today in Liam Rosenior’s first Premier League match.
He scored twice in midweek against Arsenal and earned himself a start, but couldn’t make the most of the chance. Taken off before the hour mark, the frustration was obvious on the Argentine’s face as he knew he had failed to impress.
The player ratings from around the grounds made that clear.

As you’d expect, the focus was mainly on the big chance that Garnacho missed to make it 2-0.
“Missed an absolute sitter in the first half and faded before being the first player subbed off,” said the Evening Standard, who awarded him a 5/10.
FotMob gave Garnacho a 6.3, and their commentary was that “there can be no doubting Garnacho’s work rate, but the end product was incredibly frustrating when compared to his impact against Arsenal. Somehow managed to miss what should have been a certain goal.”
The Chelsea Chronicle gave a 6, and said he “almost made Brentford pay after a poor ball back to the goalkeeper before putting in a very good cross not too long after. Should have scored before the first half concluded.”
Finally Bobby Vincent of Football.London gave a 4, and said “after scoring two goals in the week, the Argentine earned a place in the starting line-up. Missed an absolute sitter moments before half-time. Off on 58 minutes.”
In other news…
Rosenior also spoke about Enzo Fernandez and his showing for the Blues today, suggesting that his attacking midfielder should have something very specific for dinner tonight after two great, energetic performances.
Robert Sanchez was perhaps Chelsea’s best player today, making some big saves and staving off a Brentford team at set pieces. It was a great way to make amends for two midweek mistakes.
