Chelsea defeated high-flying Brentford 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon in Liam Rosenior’s first Premier League game in charge of the Blues.
The hosts appealed for a penalty in the 9th minute after Enzo Fernandez found João Pedro in the area, who was then clipped by Michael Kayode, but referee John Brooks waved away the appeals before Cole Palmer curled his effort wide.
The Bees could have taken the lead in the 20th minute when Igor Thiago slipped a pass through to Kevin Shade, whose attempted pass across deflected off Tosin Adarabioyo towards his own goal, and Robert Sanchez reacted well to keep the effort out.
João Pedro broke the deadlock in the 25th minute after Kayode’s clearance deflected off Fernandez into the path of the Brazilian, who finished into the roof of the net, and after a VAR review, the goal was given.
The visitors then had three chances to draw level. First, Schade’s header from a corner flew wide, and then Mikkel Damsgaard flicked on a corner to Mathias Jensen at the back post, who dragged his volley just wide of the far post.
Moments later, the Dane had an opportunity again to restore parity, but his effort was palmed away by Sanchez.
Just before the break, the Blues could’ve doubled their advantage when Pedro Neto fired in a low cross to the back post for Alejandro Garnacho, but the Argentine missed the target from point-blank range.
Shortly after the restart, Neto had his sights on goal, but he flashed his effort wide.
At the other end, Schade was one-on-one with Sanchez, but the Spanish goalkeeper denied the German with his left leg.
In the 76th minute, Chelsea were awarded a penalty after Caoimhin Kelleher brought down Liam Delap in the area. Palmer stepped up for the spot-kick and converted calmly.
The Bees continued to mount pressure but couldn’t get a breakthrough, and Chelsea secured their first three points in the Premier League since December 13th, 2025.
