Michael Owen says there's one thing he finds 'deeply frustrating' about Liverpool right now

Liverpool are still yet to win a Premier League game in 2026 after drawing 1-1 with Burnley.

It’s 12 games unbeaten for the Reds, but that doesn’t mean an awful lot after a performance like that.

Liverpool of old would have dominated Burnley, who kicked off Saturday sitting 19th in the Premier League with just three wins all season.

Florian Wirtz scored the opener, with some impressive work from Hugo Ekitike in the build-up.

However, despite signs of promise in the first half, Arne Slot’s team were so flat in the second half, allowing the Clarets to equalise and secure a point.

What is your message to Arne Slot after Liverpool’s clash with Burnley?

Michael Owen bemoans Liverpool’s performances

It feels like we are in the same situation week in, week out with this team, and Michael Owen has now shared his frustration at the situation.

Speaking live to Premier League Productions after the match, Owen stated that Liverpool just aren’t ruthless enough.

He said: “They’re just not ruthless at the moment, they’ve not been for most of the season.

“You never feel safe when they’re ahead.

“Deeply frustrating, they need to find good performances again. They could do with making Anfield a hard place to come again.”

Surely Arne Slot is living on borrowed time, when will Liverpool pull the trigger?

How Liverpool could save their season

What must happen for that to change? It’s hard to say, but the obvious solution does appear to be finding a new manager.

An interim coach replacing Slot has been mooted this week, but it remains to be seen if and when FSG would be open to making a change.

Whatever happens, though, it’s become clear that the 2025/26 season has largely been written off already.

Success in the Champions League is the one saving grace, with a meeting against Marseille up next for the Reds.

However, if Liverpool play how they are right now against some of the best teams in Europe, it’s unlikely they will go far in the competition.
