'So impressed': Liam Rosenior admits one Chelsea player is even better than he expected

Liam Rosenior is still looking to build his new squad at Chelsea, but the current players at the club are already impressing him.

One thing that does look like happening is a new centre-back coming to Stamford Bridge.

The pursuit of Jeremy Jacquet has picked up today, with Chelsea supposedly agreeing a contract with the defender, but there may be a stumbling block as the fee required is £60 million.

Nevertheless, it’s a positive sign to see the Chelsea owners investing in the right areas after originally not wanting to sign a defender until the summer.

However, Chelsea will be hoping that there aren’t any major outgoings in the January transfer window, as they look to build and grow under Liam Rosenior.

Liam Rosenior sees Enzo Fernandez as an important Chelsea player

Always expect the unexpected with Chelsea, but at least for now, the signs with Enzo Fernandez appear to be positive ones.

Paris Saint-Germain have made contact to sign Fernandez, but they do acknowledge that it will be difficult to prise him away from Stamford Bridge.

Liam Rosenior’s stance is clear, as he sees the Argentine as a key player.

Speaking after the win against Brentford, he had this to say.

“So impressed. I knew what an outstanding player he was. It’s not until you see a player up close to see what he’s all about. He’s a winner.

“It’s his birthday today so I told him he should go to a steakhouse and enjoy some Argentinian steak. He’s an important player.”

Enzo Fernandez’s importance to Chelsea

Enzo Fernandez has transformed his game in the final third over the past year.

Since the start of last season, he has recorded 36 goal involvements across all competition, which is more than any other Chelsea player, including Cole Palmer.

And he has already scored six Premier League goals this season (matching his previous best tally).

That’s not all, as in 2025, he created more chances (51) than any other Chelsea player and led the Premier League in chances created from open play for the majority of the year.

Fernandez’s performance against Brentford is another example of just how much he brings to this team.
