Chelsea fans slam star after Brentford win
Chelsea fans have slammed Marc Cucurella despite their 2-0 win over Brentford in the Premier League. The Blues believe that the 27-year-old dropped another poor performance, and they were lucky to come away with the three points.
Liam Rosenior was taking charge of his first Premier League game at Stamford Bridge today, and his side welcomes London rivals Brentford. They took the lead in the first half through Joao Pedro, who was denied a penalty by the referee and VAR earlier in the game.
The Brazilian made the most of a Brentford clearance, pinballing off Enzo Fernandez and smashing the ball in from the edge of the box, catching Caoimhin Kelleher by surprise. The home side managed to keep hold of their lead until half-time.
Brentford kept getting chances to get back into the game, but their efforts were either wide of the target or saved by Robert Sanchez, who was at his best once again. The Blues were unable to create much in the second half, but a poor touch from Kelleher gave Liam Delap a chance to pounce and forced the away side's keeper to foul him.
Cole Palmer stepped up and scored the penalty to make it 2-0, and the home side held on for all three points. Chelsea fans were unhappy with the performance and pointed the finger at Marc Cucurella, who struggled on the pitch. Many posted:
Chelsea moved to sixth in the Premier League after the win, sitting two points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, who dropped points to Burnley today.
Liam Rosenior delighted with Chelsea's win over Brentford
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior said that he was pleased with the win after picking up three points against Brentford. The manager praised the opponents for putting up a fight and said:
"Very pleasing. Brentford, I don't know where they are now. They were fifth in the league when we played them. They're a good team. Very good team. Very well organised. Very good without the ball. Really understand where they need to be with the ball. Very well organised on set plays."
"It was going to be a real test for us and sometimes you have to win the game in different ways. So for me, it's about winning. I've said that since I've come in. We didn't play the free-flowing football that I want us to in the end, but we got the job done and that's a really, really pleasing result for the players to give them and myself more confidence moving forward."
