A close look at the Italian "open to a move abroad" after Marc Guehi agreed Man City transfer

Liverpool need to sign a new central defender and in the wake of another top target slipping away, the Reds are now looking at the Serie A and Inter Milan.

A report from Sky Sports reveals that Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has agreed on personal terms with Manchester City, with a transfer now nearing completion.

With the Englishman no longer available, Liverpool are moving on quickly amid reports that the Reds are now looking at Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni.

Alessandro Bastoni happy at Inter but “might look to try his hand abroad”

Amid Liverpool’s need for a new top centre-half, Bastoni would be the ideal alternative to Marc Guehi. He’s 26, strong, fast and reliable on the ball.

According to transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey, Bastoni may soon look to leave Italy in search of a new challenge.

Bailey reported last month: “Alessandro is happy at Inter, and in Italy, but at 26, there is the belief he might look to try his hand abroad. He is at the top of his game, and not many in the world currently compare to him.

“2026 is going to be a big year for him.”

Liverpool must do everything they can to bring Bastoni to Anfield

In Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool have the best central defender on earth over the last eight years. The Dutchman raised the standards for every centre-back in the game but he is coming to the end of the full height of his powers.

It’s silly to suggest the Dutchman is close to being finished at the top level but he is no longer at this peak. This happens to every player, but one that could inherit the throne is Inter’s Bastoni.

The 26-year-old Italian has everything he needs to become the most elite player in his position. A step up to the Premier League is now necessary to truly challenge his talents but there’s no doubt that he’s good enough to dominate English football.

Not only is he tall and strong enough, but Bastoni has proven in Italy that he is no stranger to sacrificing his body for the ball. Liverpool need somone to succeed van Dijk that will command the line in the same fashion.
