Arsenal watching 19yo Leipzig winger

Arsenal are among the clubs tracking Yan Diomande ahead of RB Leipzig’s Bundesliga meeting with Bayern Munich, with the 19-year-old winger expected to be watched closely in Saturday evening’s fixture.

Trierischer Volksfreund report that Leipzig’s game against Bayern could act as a major showcase for Diomande, with PSG, Liverpool and Arsenal listed alongside Bayern as clubs showing interest in the attacker, but it seems to be all about the Germans.

Christoph Freund, Bayern’s sporting director, said: “He is a very good player who has made a very good development. Every time a young player performs really well in the Bundesliga, he is associated with Bayern.” He then added that Diomande is a Leipzig player and “that’s not our topic to comment on”.

Leipzig defender Willi Orban also acknowledged the attention around the winger’s form, saying: “The way he played in the first few games, I would be surprised if no top club was interested in him. It is logical that these clubs are paying attention.” Diomande has seven goals and four assists in 17 games this season.

Diomande moved from a US academy to Leganés at the start of 2025 before joining Leipzig in the summer, with the German club paying €20m for him. He’s now valued at more than double that, already.

The Ivory Coast international is under contract until 2030 and Orban added that Leipzig are in a strong position when it comes to his future. He said he was not an expert on Diomande’s contract but added, “the good thing is that he has no exit clause”.

Leipzig’s head of sport Marcel Schäfer told Kicker: “There’s not even anyone sitting in the passenger seat. Everyone is sitting in the back seat.“

Lothar Matthäus, now a representative for Bayern, described Diomande as a “huge player” and said he is “a candidate” for the club, but added: “I wouldn’t really recommend Diomande to take the next step right now. In my opinion, he is not that far yet.“

With regards to Arsenal, even though the transfer window has been open all month, rumours of incoming signings have been few and far between and what few there have been have been lightweight, not unlike this one, if we’re honest.
