The Celtics just matched NBA history with a ridiculous second quarter performance vs. Hawks

The Celtics put on an offensive show on Saturday night, matching some NBA history in a dominant 52-point second quarter against the Atlanta Hawks. The Celtics knocked down 11 3-point field goals in the period, which matched the record for most ever made by a team in a quarter (Thunder also did it last month).

The barrage of makes from the perimeter came largely from Sam Hauser, who was a perfect 6-of-6 from 3-point range to post a team-high 18 points in the quarter. Anfernee Simons continued his hot shooting run with 11 points in the frame (3-of-4 from 3-point range).

Derrick White and Baylor Scheierman also chipped in with 3-point makes. Boston shot an incredible 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from beyond the arc in the frame, only slightly below team field goal percentage in the quarter (76 percent).

Jaylen Brown did not hit a 3-point shot in the second quarter but did score 11 points in the frame, giving him a game-high 29 points at halftime. Boston ended up with 82 points at halftime, their most in a first half since March 3, 2024, according to C’s stat guru Dick Lipe.

It was the team’s fourth-highest first half scoring performance ever according to Taylor Snow, but still nine points shy of the team record in a half.
