Marcus Smart injury update: JJ Redick comments after Portland loss

Marcus Smart scored a team-high 25 points before leaving the game vs. the Portland Trail Blazers with a knee collision, which coach JJ Redick said appeared to be a knee-to-knee or knee-to-quad hit and not a serious injury.

The Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 132–116 on Saturday night, with the Lakers playing without their top scorer, Luka Doncic.

Marcus Smart led Los Angeles with 25 points, but his night ended early after he limped off the court midway through the fourth quarter and did not return.

After the game, head coach JJ Redick addressed Smart's injury.

"I believe it was knee-to-knee or knee-to-quad. I'm not sure, but it was a collision," Redick said.

Redick also commented on Jake LaRavia's elbow issue.

"I mean, he's got that thing wrapped. I think he fell on it. He was fine," the coach explained.

The Lakers were already shorthanded, playing without Doncic, starting center Deandre Ayton, and backup big man Jaxson Hayes.

Still, since Smart's injury resulted from a collision, it does not appear to be a long-term concern.

Los Angeles now sits at 24-16 on the season and will host the Toronto Raptors on Sunday.
