Liverpool are now prepared to launch a shock £78m offer to sign a replacement for Virgil van Dijk, who is on course to become a free agent at the end of his contract in 2027.
Slot: “I completely understand the frustration" after Burnley draw
There's two ways to look at Liverpool's recent run of form. On one side, the Reds haven't lost in 12 games in all competitions. But on the other side, the reality is that it's been an uninspiring run full of frustrating draws and a Liverpool side struggling to discover the spark that made them champions last season.
Burnley's visit to Anfield provided an all too familiar story. Liverpool were dominant in the first-half and got their reward courtesy of Florian Wirtz, who is finally showing his best form in Merseyside. One half-time break later, however, and Arne Slot's side looked fragile and were soon made to pay in yet another disappointing draw.
Boos echoed around Anfield when the full-time whistle sounded and even Slot couldn't shy away from those frustrations in his post-match interview.
The Liverpool boss said: “I completely understand the frustration. I have the same frustrations and the players definitely have the same frustrations as the fans.
“Today was a game where I liked seeing us have even more possession than we would usually have, generating a lot of chances and usually that comes with, if you take more risk, with the other team counter-attacking you but we controlled that really well.

Liverpool have identified a top Premier League midfielder to revamp Slot's struggling midfield.
“But in football one team can have two chances – one was almost an own goal for us (when Ibrahima Konate forced Alisson Becker to save at close-range) – and score one goal when the other team has multiple chances and score just one goal as well and then you get the result you get.”
The attention now turns towards the Champions League and, as per recent reports, the transfer market as those at Anfield eye potential reinforcements.
Liverpool prepared to go all out for Van de Ven
According to reports in Spain, Liverpool are now prepared to sign Micky van de Ven for around €90m (£78m) in the summer as they look to land a long-term replacement for Van Dijk.
The Dutchman will be out of contract in 2027 and the Reds will be forced to take on the impossible task of replacing the irreplaceable. In many ways, it sums up Liverpool's problems at centre-back.

When the summer arrives, Ibrahima Konate could be heading for the exit door as a free agent unless he puts pen to paper in the coming months. Marc Guehi, meanwhile, looks destined for Manchester City this month rather than Anfield and Joe Gomez's injury history means that he's unlikely to be available every week.
Suddenly, the arrival of Van de Ven could be imperative to any further success for Slot at Anfield. Dubbed "brilliant" by Gary Neville back in 2024, the Tottenham Hotspur defender reportedly wants to leave for bigger and better things, which Liverpool could offer him.
