Chelsea push hard to beat Arsenal and Liverpool – Big-money Blues deal

Chelsea’s rush to secure Jérémy Jacquet from Rennes is partly so they beat Liverpool and Arsenal to the punch.

On Saturday, news came from France that Chelsea are the frontrunners to sign the 20-year-old. The 20-year-old came through the youth system at the Ligue 1 side, and has spent the last couple of years rounding off his football education.

Last season, Jacquet was in Ligue 2 with Clermont Foot 63 for the first half of the campaign. He was brought back at the end of the 2025 January window.

This season, the youngster has started every Rennes game he’s been available for. A right-footed central defender, he broke into the France U21 side last year.

Dimanche Ouest France report Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and others are keen on the player.

Chelsea have decided to push hard for an immediate signing, with new manager Liam Rosenior backing the plan. Jacquet is thought to be keen on a transfer to Stamford Bridge, given it’s the Blues pushing for him.

Chelsea again told €60m+ for transfer

The Blues are in contact with Rennes and want to secure a deal quickly. Dimanche Ouest France believe the French club are asking for more than €60m. That fits in with Saturday’s claims which stated Chelsea want to pay €50m, but Rennes are looking for something above that €60m figure.

There’s some optimism provided for Chelsea. Rennes obviously believe a sale is possible as they’ve contacted Fenerbahçe for Sebastian Szymanski.

Whether Arsenal or Liverpool will try to muscle in for Jacquet isn’t made clear. Mikel Arteta’s side made an attempt for the defender in the summer, but were knocked back.

The €60m+ which Rennes are asking for is a very high level.

Jérémy Jacquet is clearly talented, yet it would still be a gamble to see if he could make the jump to fighting for Premier League positions towards the top of the table.
