Opinion: One Sean Dyche decision shows that £18m star is finished at Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest claimed a valuable point from Arsenal on Saturday evening as the Reds drew 0-0.

Sean Dyche knew his team needed a big performance after West Ham won at Tottenham earlier in the day.

Forest had beaten the Hammers last time out in the Premier League to go seven points clear, but the gap to the relegation zone has now been cut to five.

The Reds had a number of top performers during the game against the league leaders, but for one man in particular, he must be wondering what comes next at Forest.

Taiwo Awoniyi is completely finished at Forest

There was a curious decision during the second half of the game made by Sean Dyche that will have left Awoniyi fuming.

The Nigerian sat on the bench as the Forest head coach threw Dan Ndoye on the pitch as the team’s lone striker.

Ndoye did a pretty good job too and that must have annoyed Awoniyi who will have been itching to get on the pitch against the Gunners.

Forest have scored three goals against Arsenal since returning to the Premier League in 2022 and Awoniyi has actually scored them all.

However, he was left to stew on the bench against the Gunners this time, with Ndoye preferred in the attack, with Forest looking to see out a big point.

The decision to place the Swiss performer on the pitch before Awoniyi will almost certainly signal the end of the player at Forest and he will now be wanting out.

Forest have to get a striker in

This could have been a purposeful ploy from Sean Dyche to reiterate that the football club needs another striker to come in during the January transfer window.

Forest have enjoyed some good moments this season but scoring goals has been a real vice of the club during the Dyche era.

Awoniyi simply isn’t good enough anymore and it would appear now that Dyche is acutely aware of this, choosing to omit him from the pitch against Arsenal.

Putting Ndoye on ahead of the player is simply a sign that Dyche isn’t convinced by the player and it will be fascinating to see what happens next with the striker.
