Liverpool are unbeaten in twelve games, but the quality of the performances show the reality of the situation.
The Reds hold an impressive unbeaten run on paper, but when it’s broken down, it tells a worrying reading.
The unbeaten run consists of six wins and six draws, showing the inconsistency of the performances in the league recently and the obvious need to improve.
Arne Slot’s side have won just five of the last 17 league matches, collecting 21 points out of a possible 51.
To put that into context, Roy Hodgson was sacked as manager in January 2011 after accumulating 25 points from 20 games.
It is important to mention of course that Arne Slot winning the Premier League last season has given him some room to work with when it comes to inconsistency.
There is understanding from the board that the Dutchman is not only a title-winning manager, but also someone who ahs had to deal with tragedy and significant change last summer.
However, Liverpool’s draw against Burnley at Anfield yesterday set a new unwanted record for the Reds, as it became the first time since the 1980/81 season that Liverpool have failed to win at home against any of the newly promoted sides in a single season.
Despite setting records such as that, Liverpool remain in fourth place in the Premier League table, well on course for Champions League qualification and are still in the FA Cup.
According to The Athletic, “Slot retains the backing of FSG, who currently have no plans to follow the lead of rivals Manchester United and Chelsea by making managerial change mid-season.”
“However, if he’s going to stop haemorrhaging support among the fanbase he needs to find some momentum, and fast. Previously, there appeared to be no obvious replacement for those demanding change.”
“That’s no longer the case following Xabi Alonso’s exit from Real Madrid.”
Many have tipped Alonso to become the next manager at Anfield but Fenway Sports Group have never been owners who rush decisions and for the time-being, Arne Slot appears to be safe.
