Henrik Pedersen explains why Sheffield Wednesday swooped to sign Jaden Heskey from Man City

Jaden Heskey joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan for the remainder of the season on Friday.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen has said it was “natural” for the club to rekindle their interest in Jaden Heskey because Manchester City were able to assist the deal from a financial point of view.

Heskey, who was on Wednesday’s radar back in the summer, joined the club on loan for the rest of the season on Friday, providing Wednesday’s threadbare squad with a much-needed boost.

Wednesday were keen on signing Heskey, 20, ahead of the summer transfer window closing but were not given the green light they needed to complete a deal. However, after being given the opportunity to bring two loanees in during this month’s window, they revided their interest in the versatile midfielder.

Heskey, who is the son of former England and Liverpool striker Emile, made his Owls debut in the second half of Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Portsmouth at Hillsborough, replacing Jarvis Thornton with 63 minutes on the clock. Registering ten touches of the ball, the youngster completed all of his six attempted passes.

Pedersen addresses Heskey addition

Heskey’s temporary move to Hillsborough has seen him reunited with former City coach Craig Mudd, who moved to S6 back in September. Mudd was City’s Under-21s’ assistant boss prior to moving to Hillsborough.

Pedersen told The Star: “He knows him very well and we tried to bring him in the summer - it was not possible. It was natural, because we have a few central midfielders, that he could play more positions in the middle.

“He is a young player with good qualities and he is physical player. It was natural for us to go in this direction because Man City were ready to support us with the financial situation.”
