Liverpool might not need to replace Mohamed Salah in January, but a bargain option be a summer solution.
Mohamed Salah didn’t quite win Liverpool the league on his own last year, but no player has ever made as many goal contributions in a single season.
The additions of Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike were meant to lessen the burden from Salah and yet, all they have done is emphasise just how good he was and how hard he will be to replace.
A falling out with Arne Slot before the African Cup of Nations should have cooled with time and the Egypt international will be hoping to put the disappointment behind him and get back to goalscoring ways for the Reds.
How can Liverpool replace Mo Salah?
Liverpool need a natural right-winger, preferably one that is left-footed and who is capable of scoring goals and of chipping in with assists. Proven experience at international level and in the Premier League would also be a benefit.
With seven goals and four assists in 20 games for Fulham this season, Harry Wilson has been in outstanding form under Marco Silva playing off the right. After just two appearances for the first team, Wilson has gone from strength to strength, regularly being a difference-maker at several clubs. With 67 caps, he also has the experience to cope with a return to Anfield.
The 28-year old is out of contract at the end of the season and could be the perfect option to sign alongside someone like Barcola or Diomande who might need time to adjust to English football. This season has also shown just how short Liverpool are of natural wide players, especially ones who can play on the right and ones who are left-footed.
Harry Wilson praised for sparkling form
According to Fulham boss Silva, Wilson could be the magician that Slot has said he is looking for, via The Gazette: “He’s been incredible. Right now everything he touches becomes something magic, something that will have an impact. You just have to try to take the best from him. It’s the best moment of his career definitely. He’s enjoying and he’s worked very hard. His numbers are top, incredible. Very humble, a hard worker always.”
Another fan is Danny Murphy, the former Fulham midfielder, who told Match of the Day viewers via BBC Sport: "He is so intelligent. He doesn't rely on his physicality and pace as his movement is brilliant. In front of goal, he is so reliable and technically is such a good player," the former Fulham and England midfielder added.
"His levels at the moment are ridiculously high and if he maintains that then he is going to have the pick of clubs because he is out of contract at the end of the season."
Wilson has said that he wants a new deal at Craven Cottage, whether or not he would feel the same way if there was an offer from Liverpool too is another story.
